Morris Loveman Friedman was born in Tuscaloosa, the second child of Victor and Hanna Mills Friedman. He attended local schools and the Manlius Military Academy in Syracuse, New York. He served in the United States Army in World War I.
After the war until 1964, he was associated with Lee Black and I. Z. Winston in the clothing firm, Black, Friedman and Winston, an exclusive men's clothing store in Tuscaloosa.
He was also a well-known Tuscaloosa community leader, often referred to as "Mr. Theater" for his connection to the community theater starting in the 1920s. Friedman held countless roles in local productions from Shakespearean drama to musical comedy. He co-founded the first Boy Scout troop as well as the Tuscaloosa Exchange Club and was a charter member of the Tuscaloosa Country Club.
He married Emmelyn Lurie of Dothan and they had a son, Victor Morris Friedman, and a daughter, Emily Ann Friedman Bliss.
