Abernathy was the son of Mrs. Ruby Abernathy of Tuscaloosa. <br /><br />Sgt. For his service he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Colonel Alston attended school in Tuscaloosa his entire life, graduating with a degree from the University of Alabama. Following graduation he moved to Anniston where he worked and met his wife Cornelia. Colonel Alston's mother was Mrs. George Alston Sr. of Tuscaloosa. Lt. Rudolph Bailey was killed in a bomber crash over Lakeland, Florida, on April 23, 1943. Lt. Bailey was originally from Anniston, Alabama, but had attended the University of Alabama until he enlisted. Lt. Bailey's widow was the former Miss Myrtle Green of Northport.<br /><br />A photo of Lt.
